About Our Shows

CYT shows are appropriate for the entire family and are an excellent way to introduce children to the arts!

In a typical session, each CYT Chicago Chapter produces one Broadway-style musical. Enrollment in CYT classes provides students (ages 8-18) the opportunity to audition for their chapter’s current production. Participation fee for cast members is due after casting. Students not cast in the show are encouraged to participate in other ways. Depending on age and ability, students (and siblings) can participate on the backstage crew, technical team, or the costume and makeup committees.

CYT Chicago’s ever popular Group Tours are the perfect outing for Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, youth groups, birthday parties, senior groups and clubs. Learn how everything runs behind the curtain with a backstage tour before the show, meet the cast, receive an exclusive CYT fun patch and more. Come experience the magic of theater!

School Day Performances

CYT Chicago is one of the most respected children’s theater companies serving Illinois and Wisconsin, with family-friendly productions starring students ages 8-18. Literature from the classroom comes to life on stage with colorful costumes, professional staging, energetic choreography, and singing. Curriculum guides are available on request.

CYT School Day performances are typically 90 minutes in duration, and because they do sell out, please reserve your tickets today.

Auditions

Auditions typically consist of a one-minute song performed for the artistic team, with the possibility to learn and perform a short dance routine. The audition process may also include a “callback” in which a student may be asked to read for a speaking role in the play.  Auditions are a wonderful way for students to gain self-confidence and to show the best of their talents!

The stage is not only a world apart, it is a myriad of worlds, and in those worlds a man can have anything he fancies, if only he believes in what he sees.

Directing Teams

A CYT director's mission is to train and instruct students in a way that promotes the development of character, self-esteem, and confidence. Our directors are qualified and experienced in the area in which they lead. They have been trained in the CYT methods of instruction and agree with the CYT values and outcome goals.  All of our directors have been background checked and adhere to our Mission and Values. Our directors truly care about their cast members and provide a constructive and fun environment for them to learn.
